My very first car

I've decided to play a fun little game called, "My Very First Car!" I'm only doing it because I actually found pics online of MY first ride, in the same color.

Here it is! My red 1964 Pontiac Lemans.

Drove it for six years (junior year of high school until I graduated college). Isn't she pretty? I think everyone, at some point in their life, should drive a beautiful, old car. I also think everyone, at some point in their life, should drive a car that stops running at red lights on cold mornings, leaks oil and when it rains the floor boards flood and the brakes go out. This little beaut was all of those things and more. Now, THAT is a car!

I realize you all are feeling jealous, because it really was an amazing automobile. However, picture me as a senior in college, late for chapel, having to pop the hood and spray the alternator (which was sticking AGAIN) just to get it started, then dumping in some more oil ... OH, and then having to hop in the front seat Daisy Duke style through the window because the driver door was permanently stuck shut.

Mmmmm ... and I also forgot to mention the really cool BLACK interior ... in Texas ... for SIX years ... and NO AC! I would open the vents and drive with my elbows in the air so the draft would keep my pits dry. I would have to wear shorts and t-shirt to church and take my dress clothes, so I could change when I got there. Otherwise, I would be dripping.

Just trying to help you all keep it in perspective!

Okay, that car is WAY cooler and more beautiful than my first car: A Geo Prizm!

Thanks for the tag, but I think I am too embarrassed to post a pic of a Geo Prizm on my blog (okay, maybe not - I'll do it!)

I never owned a car until I was married. We bought a barely used Dodge Dart. Extremely pathetic and I don't have a picture!

I've never owned an actual brand-new from the lot car.

Christine, I can't find a picture of my first car, online, anywhere. It was a 1985 black pontiac fiero. That car was horrible. I bought it used, and couldn't give that darned thing away.

That LaMans is gorgeous!

WOW! She sure is a beaut! I bet you had a ton of fun in that baby!

My car was a '72 Datsun 510 station wagon with curtains and surf racks. I eventually had to pay someone to tow it from my house. Great times in that car!

Beautiful car! Mine was definitely not that cool...

I had a 1990 Chevrolet Lumina. My mom had already been driving it around for five years when my parents gave it to me. We called her Blue. She went through a couple of very minor fender benders, then a hail storm during my first year of college. At the end of that same year, I had two wrecks in the same week (neither were my fault), so she was renamed The Meteormobile.

The Meteormobile was repaired as a birthday gift one year. Then the brakes went out, and they went out again, and again... It was the beginning of the end.

All of her major organs went into failure and she leaked oil. I ended up selling her in the spring of '04 to my best friend for $600 (her husband does a little repair work). It's sitting in front of their house now, since the engine is burnt up, the wiper motor doesn't work, there's no air conditioning and the thing won't go in reverse anymore.

I drive a 1997 Ford Escort now. I really miss my Lumina! She was a good car... Now that I've shared more information than you ever needed... LOL

Ha! I hope you are in the mood to do some READING. I posted on the topic of cars a while back. Two posts, actually.

Oh, well no wonder you think this is a fun post - your first car was AWESOME!!! Mine was a 1988 Chevy Corsica. It was a nice little car, but far from cool! LOL.

Thanks for the tag, btw.

Ick. I barely remembered this thing. Am I supposed to post it on my blog? Well, I will.

I had to look up what "tagged" meant. What a dork!

My first car was an orange 1976 Datsun B210 hatchback. It barely ran, yours is so cool.

I guess I am showing my age here...my first car was a 1991 Toyota Tercel hatchback. It was a lemon, but it got me where I needed to go when I was 16 =).

Thanks for the tag, Christine! :)
My first car was a silver 1983 Nissan Sentra. With no a/c...in Florida. I've been trying to dig up a picture to scan but no luck.
What a neat post.

Sweet!

Remember when Tiff came to see me in Tarleton when you guys were at HP? She borrowed your car then made up some excuse about it not starting so she and I could hang. I believe I recall you being rather miffed about that.

Anyway, my first car was a 1981 Datsun 200SX. It was total greatness!

"Miffed" is being nice. I was our college mascot and had to be at a basketball game. If you were late more than once, you lost your scholarship. I literally stood around on the street waiting for one of the students to drive by on the way to the game ... me and my big, giant yellow jacket head!!

Stupid boys! You were always getting in the way of girls thinking straight.

I totally remember that car. I also remember your big, fat Yellow Jacket costume!!! Ah... the memories.
