Come over here and sit in Momma's lapbook

I have to make a confession. I've heard of lapbooks. I have friends that are always talking about lapbooks. Yet, I never had any idea (really) what they are ... what they could be, and blew them off as just a homeschool trend that probably isn't as interesting as it's made out to be. So, the other night I finally thought, "Okay! Okay! I'll see what all the hype is about!"

And there you have it. I'm a lapbook addict. The kids have yet to finish one, but I'm already on my second! I started with one on Africa, because we have a child that is African American and enjoy learning more about her ethnic history. I wanted to make one including as many different types of folds and options as I could - as an example.

Then, I decided to do one on the earth. Basically, the kids have worked on learning the names of the continents and the oceans. Alright *whispers* in actuality, I just thought it would be cool to crumple up the paper and make the land parts look a bit mountainous on the front cover, which is the true prompting behind choosing that subject - THIS IS SO MUCH FUN!!!!

I could list all of the gazillion sites on lapbooks for you, but you'd be scrolling for days. Just google yourself a search on "lapbooks."

Gotta' go eat some more crow ... and finish working on my butt-kickin' Earth book!

Too cool! Gonna have to check this out! What a way to get my 19 month old involved with my 9 year old and I during the school day...something I have been struggling with!

Hi! We are lapbookers too! I'm visiting from the HS Carnival.

Now that you've got the bug, you're sure to keep blogging them. Would you like to join the lapbooking blogring?

Your earth one is brilliant! I love the creativity that lapbooking affords!
