My birthday suit ... errr ... verse!

A few months ago my husband made a major mistake that every pastor should avoid. He began his teaching by talking about something that basically made us all not give a flying flip about anything else he said.

He talked about finding your "birthday verse." Basically, that means taking the month and date of your birthday (for instance, May 12th would be 5 and 12), and then finding a Bible verse that coincides (looking up Genesis 5:12, then Exodus 5:12, and so on). Of course, you would want to choose the one that had the most meaning for you. Also, not every single book in the Bible will actually HAVE your numbers (unless your birthday is in early January, then your odds are really good!).

And, yes, as my husband continued his teaching, not a darn soul was paying attention. We were all flipping through the whole stinkin' Bible, deciding on our "birthday verse!" I've never heard so much page turning in all my life. It was quite comical.

Not me, of course. I listened intently. *cough*

So, I thought I would share some of my findings. First, my favorite, and I guess the one that I would choose to be my official "birthday verse" is Luke 6:28 - "Bless those who curse you; pray for those who hate you."

One that was a little more abstract, and really brought me pause was Job 6:28 - "Now please look at me and see if I lie to your face."

Then, of course, my two quirky favorites:

Mark 6:28 - "... and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother."

II Kings 6:28 - "And the King said to her, "What is the matter with you?" And she answered, "This woman said to me, 'Give your son that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.'"

At which point the King said, "Dear, do you know that the word 'gullible' is not in the dictionary?"

If you don't have a copy of the Bible, and want me to look up your possibilities, let me know! It's fun ... thought provoking ... all that good stuff!

That is a very interesting idea. Here are a couple of mine.

Altogether, Kenan lived 910 years, and then he died. Genesis 5:14

The Israelite foremen appointed by Pharaoh's slave drivers were beaten and were asked, "Why didn't you meet your quota of bricks yesterday or today, as before?" Exodus 5:14

You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Matthew 5:14

Wait....6:28? That's _MY_ birthday! Heh...you just saved me a _whole_ lot of trouble flipping through...um...Bible Gateway...since I'm too lazy to actually flip all the pages myself.

Happy belated half birthday!

This is hilarious! I've just now stopped everything I was doing to check mine. I'm in Deut and I've not found anything yet...I'll get back with some news, though. :-)

Isaiah 7:22
"That person will eat cheese because they will produce so much milk. Everyone who is left in the land will eat cheese and honey. "

I'll admit I jumped around a bit but I had to stop at this one because I was eating string cheese when I found it. I like cheese...and honey. I WAS actually supposed to be doing my bible study however so I'd better go and visit Daniel (7:22) now. :)

This is Great!! Of course, I've now spent an hour looking all mine up and coping them into a word pad document to keep. One that stuck out at me was:

Proverbs 7:11 - She is unruly and defiant, her feet never stay at home.

This is the NIV version - the King James version says: loud & stubborn.

Hummm.....

Great idea! Until I looked up Genesis 9:21
21 When he drank some of its wine, he became drunk and lay uncovered inside his tent.

I'll keep looking for the right one. ;)

Thanks a lot!! It is 12:06am and I'm up enjoying some of the posts on your blog, and now, I will have to consider signing off because...I'VE GOT TO FIND OUT WHAT MY BIRTHDAY VERSES ARE!! I should be asleep anyway. Not many blogs keep me up this long and keep me responding. What can you say?

Just read this and thought...man I have a lot of Bible verses to read. My birthday's January 1st so every book should have a verse for me to peruse. :-)
