Homemade stink remover

"Mom, I threw up."

That's what you want to wake up to at 1:00 am.

It inevitably means that somewhere there is something to clean up, and it probably doesn't smell like roses.

I bought into the whole Febreeze thing long ago. Yet, as I've started making my own cleaners, I have moved to an old favorite of yore. Vinegar and water, baby.

Seriously. It is the best odor remover.

Seriously.

Sure, you'll get a whiff of the vinegar as you're spraying it all over the spot of whatever smell makes you want to gag. Yet, as the vinegar dries, it's odor (and any others with it) disappear into thin air.

Gone.

Finito.

Just half vinegar, half water. Throw in a few drops of essential oils if ya' wanna.

It kicks some Febreeze bootie, it's dirt cheap, and you actually know what's in that bottle!

Luckily I've never gotten that wake up call. Then again I don't have kids. I'll likely put the tip to good use anyway. Thanks for sharing!

I'll have to try this!

I second Christine on this! Also, baking soda in your carpet for those invisible super-stinks (someone tracked in some kind of powerful poopoo smell on mine that I couldn't see) really works too. Just let it sit and then vacuum. I'm all for eradicating smells, not covering them with other smells.

He he he. I used to do demos for febreeze. You know how it works? It "pickles" the bacteria. Hmmmm, I wondered, what else pickles things?

Vinegar.

He he he. The best scam ever, Febreeze.

My mom Febreezes her dog before company comes over.

Oh yeah! That's what I do. But be careful spraying too much in the shower when you have no bathroom window. My bathroom smelled like salad dressing for a week!

I hope this doesn't mean you have had another round of barf at your house! I know how you are with that...

Thankfully this was one of those random, middle of the night, one shot kinda' deals.

Still a mess, but over and done.

It's amazing how well I do now with the barfs. Don't break out in cold sweats. Don't pace the floor. No panic attacks. I'm almost (ALMOST) normal!

Hooray for natural cleaners! Vinegar and water is also good for cleaning showerheads and burned-on food.

Hmmm... I just may have to try this!

Good to know, cause Lysol literally makes me gag every time I have used it to "disinfect" that lovely barf smell. Nothing is worse than the smell of disinfected barf. Seriously. Nothing.

This is an awesome tip! I don't so much mind the smell of vinegar anymore. It smells like something that can do the job you're using for, so ultimately that's not so bad! Thanks for sharing.

I took a group of girls to GA camp one summer and the first night out (in the middle of the night)we had one of them get barfy sick. Luckily I had brought along a box of baking soda. I sprinkled it over the barf and while I was calling her mom and getting her ready to go home, it took the smell away. I went back to bed and vacuumed it up the next morning. Natural stuff works the best. THanks for sharing the info. It was nice to hear how Febreeze works.
