Has anybody seen my ...?

Did you know that I'm super smart?

Well, I am.

When I lose something in the house ... like the match to a shoe or my seam ripper or the top to the blender or the match to another shoe or the match to ANOTHER shoe ...

I just put out a reward. It doesn't have to be much. Usually the offer of a quarter for the person to find the missing object is enough to get them moving. If we're desperate and need to find it RIGHT NOW, then I jack it up to fifty cents.

Granted, these things usually involve someone playing with something they shouldn't (ie: playing dress up in my closet and not putting everything back where you found it). When it comes to my kids' shoes, every child has a box in their closet for all of their shoes. It's super easy - just toss them in. If you leave your shoes out and its time to leave and you can't find your OWN shoes, then I offer up a quarter reward to anyone else who finds it, and it comes out of your allowance.

It's amazing how something as small as pocket change can really motivate them to actually ... oh, I don't know ... MOVE something over to look around!

Excellent idea!

Hey, when did you start the whole allowance thing - and do you mind sharing what you do?

Thanks!

We start when they turn five. They get one dollar for their year of age, per month (a five year old gets $5/month). Ten percent goes to savings. Ten percent goes to church.

We don't buy them a lot of extras. They can save up their allowance for extra special things. We also budget for birthdays and Christmas (so we aren't tempted to go overboard on presents/parties).

Amen to that! Seriously, why can't they find something for "free"? LOL My 8 year old is best at this. Offer up some chump change and she is all over it.

Oh, now the allowance for each kid per MONTH would so work for me. I have six kids and doing it by week would be expensive. Which is why mine don't get one lol. I'm thinking I can do the per month for sure.

we use the box/cubby system, too but the money.... hmmmm.... may have to try that! ;)

Think this would work for teens who lately in my house have seemed to have lost their COMMON SENSE??!! Just so you know...I'm offering a $1,000,000 reward to anyone who can find it...
