Things that caught my eye

I always try to post something on the weekend, but my Site Meter tells me that most of you are only checking week days. So, instead of doing anything too meaty, I thought I'd just give you the stuff that I enjoyed reading this week.

The other night I was chewing on this while chewing on some roast that was stuck in my teeth. Do we use catch phrases like "waiting on God's perfect timing" as an excuse sometimes? I've told people before that they shouldn't wait for God to move them to adopt, but they should pursue adoption passionately and if God tells them to stop, then by all means, STOP - unashamedly. I like how Amos says, "... to find your 'calling' or purpose in life isn’t to sit around and be given some divine mission, but rather to get off your ass and go find out what is needed in this world, and fill that need."

I found this GREAT new site, Forever Parents, after Meridith had reposted the "Bag of Rocks" essay. Big surprise: adoption and attachment issues have been at the forefront for me this week, and this little spot online could not have come at a better time.

I read on Lisa Ling's blog, "I have been told by adoptive parents that they seek out international adoption because the likelihood of the child finding out who his/her biological parents are is quite slim." I can't even tell you what that does to my heart to read those words - on so many levels - but starting at what is best for a child, and that those needs are abandoned from the very beginning for some. *sigh*

Check out all of the feature's on Lisa's site. Good stuff.

Then, there is this AMAZING breastfeeding story shared by the Howerton Family (even though we don't know the ultimate outcome). It is a perfect picture of community.

On a completely unrelated note, I tried to watch "Escape From New York" with my husband last night. I tried. Really, I did. Couldn't finish, though. I abandoned a cult classic. I'm a bad, bad 80's gal.

That's wild about the Lisa Ling quote. I would kill to find my kids' biological parents. I would give anything. It blows my mind that others feel differently.
