What the hey diddle?

This week, Rocks In My Dryer is doing a Backward Edition of "Works for Me Wednesday." So, I get to ask the question and you may provide an extravaganza of answers!

Here goes:

I always try to spend ... um ... NOTHING on our school needs if possible. You can't get away with that for everything, so I really focus on all of our books. I'm super active on Paperback Swap and Book Mooch. I also stalk the "for sale" boards on VegSource. Are there any others that I'm missing? We're talking cheap, my friends. I don't buy full price, and I don't buy cheap only to make up for it in shipping. CHEAP! A couple of bucks per book at the very most.

Any more ideas? Any other great sites out there that are passing me by?

Or better yet, anyone want to sell me Sonlight Level 4 for $3 ppd? Ha! I'm kidding ... sort of.

Have you looked into your local library's book sale? I get hundreds of books (and am able to sell extras!) for very cheap! You are welcome to send me a list of what books you need and I'll see if I have them.

There is always garage sales and Goodwill or other thrift shops. i am confused as to what kind of books. Library is a good place too like mommaof many suggested

Local homeschool sales, library sales and Goodwill. I got nearly all our Caldecott winners in one trip [on a day of sheer luck] at Goodwill. All had the same name written in them and they were 50 cents each! Also, one local yard sale [community wide] always has a book sale to benefit a scholarship fund. They will take 1 cent!

I have purchased textbooks on Amazon for pennies + t he 3.99 shipping. Not bad considering that the original book was 100$+!

Morning,

Have you tried Bookcrossing.com? You can request books and they are very kind and will often send you the books if they have it, you can also trade books on the site, It's all free.

Enjoy Your Day,
Heather

Ha! Obviously I know about the library, so these are books we need for school that aren't at our local library (or the one 20 miles away). We use a curriculum that is book rich (when I say book rich, I mean BOOK RICH!). Perhaps I'll post my own "needs list" before too long. The "have pity on Christine at your local library sale" list. :)

I have also found that these hard-to-find books are sooooo well worth it. I like to keep things listed and watching in several different areas.

And while my time in the city was full of amazing garage sales and Goodwills ... well, here we have only a local second-hand store (in a town with only about six homeschooling families), no Goodwill ... so you can imagine my garage sale options. I also now have five children, some with such needs that I no longer have the freedom to spend Saturday mornings perusing sales.

I need ways to shop around online ... yet still really cheap.

Heather's Stitches, that's exactly what I'm looking for! BINGO! Thanks. :)

Creme, just pull the lists of books off the Sonlight website!

Sonlight, Sonlight ... SONLIGHT!

Not that I like it or anything.

How about I loan you my SL 4? We are only up to the Revolutionary War in SL 3 and I don't plan to be done until at least February. If you think you can keep ahead and send back the first half when you're done, I'm game.

Lemme know.

Blessings,
Sandwich

One of my favorite places to find books is at our local Goodwill. I can usually pick up books for $0.50-1.00.

Also, your library's used book sale might be a good place too.

Not sure if you have a St. Vincent DePaul thrift store in your neck of the woods but they sell books for pennies. Literally. Check out other thrift stores and don't forget garage sales (when in season). Blessings, Whitney

I was facebooking and this site was an advertisement...maybe it would work? It looks like it takes all the major discount internet places (e-bay, amazon, etc) and searches them all for you.

Does your homeschool group have a curriculum swap? Most places I have lived have a swap twice a year. The books are free or almost free. It is a great way for people to get rid of books and get new ones.
