Linky Loo's

Just a little conglomeration of things I've discovered recently.

My soapbox of the week: even though the US lifted the ban on HIV-positive tourists and immigrants (July 2007), it is not yet being implemented. WHAT? No, seriously - WHAT???? The ban should have never, ever been there in the first place. Yet, it's still hanging around. Please, take time to get this subject in front of people you know.

Be sure and check back on this site, to order your copy of the "389 Years Ago" poster.

"Every time an American bites down on a steak or hamburger, they're contributing to global hunger ..." from "As Children Starve, World Struggles for Solution." Then jump over and dare to look your reality square in the face - Global Rich List

My latest crafty/sewing crush is on Urban Threads.

"I have come to understand that peoples lives are not what we think. People are complicated. Life is complicated." from Dan and Sheila Lynch at God's Plumbline Ministries.

Rev. Wesley Granberg-Michaelson's letter to President-Elect, Barack Obama. This gave me more specifics that I can be praying, especially after reading Jack Balkin's "Obama and the imperial presidency: The Bush administration has worked hard to increase presidential power. Will Barack Obama give it up?" and considering the slippery slope of power. No one is immune.

For those of us dealing with seasonal depression, I found this little nugget for a great brain energizer - Games for the Brain. You've gotta' try Rotate2.

I've been learning about Floresta and the kind of work they're doing in Haiti (along with many other organizations). So many that live there have been feeling so discouraged lately. I am praying that these types of programs will bring some hope and excitement. Sustainability. SUSTAINABILITY!

I finally took time to sit down and watch Torturing Democracy. That was rough. Then I read this.

So, thankfully, we were karaoke-ing around that night in the living room when my husband reminded me that I can quote every line from Savannah Smiles - one of my all-time favorite movies. Hadn't thought of that movie in several years. Need to show the kids (they have the whole thing in twelve parts on YouTube).

I LOVE how her tongue sticks out when she says "Put ya' in the pot!"

I was just thinking about that movie the other day. I was wondering if that little girl ever played in anything else because she was seriously cute!

Okay, just looked up to see what else she had been in and she apparently died from a drug/alcohol overdose when she was 21. How sad!!

Thank you for the first link. This does need to be more widely known.
