Today I'm going to push one of my favorite online addictions (Summer is my supplier for this one): StumbleUpon. It's a two-fold world wide wonder. It can bring more traffic to your blog AND it can bring more interesting sites to your screen.
Some of you are already StumbleUpon veterans. Just hang in there, or scroll on down to find out how we can send some love to one another.
Here is StumbleUpon in a nutshell:
*It is a type of search engine, but in a random yet personal sort of way.
*You download the application for free.
*A new toolbar appears on your browser window with the word "Stumble!" on the far left.
*You tell StumbleUpon the types of things you love most.
*You click on "Stumble!" and a random website appears that matches your interests.
*You can give that website a "thumbs up" by clicking "I like it!"
*You can give it a "thumbs down."
*You can do nothing, and click "Stumble!" again, and see what shows up next!
I have discovered some of the most interesting people and organizations and articles by stumbling. What is also very amazing is that anyone can give your blog a "thumbs up." By doing that, your blog goes into the "StumbleUpon Pot" and will show up as other people are stumbling around, looking for sites that match their preferences.
Go over to StumbleUpon. Click on "See how it works," to try it out in real time. Download it, if you're not already a complete SU addict. THEN (here's the share-the-love part), give my site a "thumbs up," leave a comment on this post, and I'll head over to your neighborhood and do the same!
A little tip: if you want to "thumbs up" my whole blog, in general, you need to click on the title at the top "welcome to my brain . net" to bring up my main page. If you have a favorite post (or posts) that you would rather "thumbs up," you need to find the post and click on its title. That will guarantee that you have pulled up the direct link to the post, and not my general blog address.
Another little tip: if you leave a comment, please make sure I know your blog address (for instance, if you have a dozen blogs on your Blogger profile that you contribute to!).

I love stumbleupon too! I'll stumble this one for you.
I am always kind of startled when I find that anyone besides my mother is reading. I always want to ask "hey! who are you? what are you about? how did you find me?" LOL!

Thanks for the tutorial. I think I stumbled your blog. (It didn't 'say' anything back at me after I clicked on the thumbs up)

Thanks! I have never heard of that; I'll have to try it. I just started blogging and feel like it's mainly my aunt and mom reading (which isn't bad, but ...)

Why do I keep singing Boy George in my head? "I'll Stumble for you! I"ll stumble for you!"
Not sure more traffic to my blog would be a good thing. The less people who think I need to be medicated - the better.
Leslie - stumbled the heck out of you, and made sure to add the tag "needs to be medicated."
Awesome!! This might just be the coolest thing *ever!*

* - stumbled!
I have stumbled...and fallen. I'll try this assignment again sometime tomorrow. It seemed challenging at first to sign up because I couldn't come up with an original user name to save my soul. All my good shanisms were taken. Is there really another Shandalier out there stumbling into stuff ahead of me? Then, I don't know something happened with my mailbox. I've got to pick myself back up and try that puppy later. :}
