The Choking Game

Heard from a friend last night, telling me of a teenage girl that died recently playing the choking game.

It was just a few weeks ago when I had to break up a group of boys on the front pew at church, putting each other in the sleeper hold until someone passed out.

I thought everyone had wised up, and this thing was history.

Nope.

I remember watching my friend pass out and start twitching as everyone laughed ... sitting on a pew in the sanctuary at church camp when I was in junior high. Little did any of us know that the twitching is brain seizures. I remember all of my guy friends doing this to each other - a LOT!

Talk to your kids THIS WEEK about this stupid, horrific game that is anything but a game. It is still going on everywhere. It is actually addictive. Brain cells are killed every. single. time. Kids are still dieing. Thousands more are causing irreparable brain damage without even realizing it.

For much more information, check out the GASP website. Post it on your blog. Get parents to talk about this! I'm not assuming my kids aren't interested. If it involves their peers, they are interested. We are having a massive educational session tonight.

Stumble Upon this article, or go up and give it a "Digg" to get the word out!

Thanks Christine for posting this.. Sadly this was a student a part of my girls ministry I was leading before transferring up here to DFW. Like a drug, the more you do the more you crave and the more drastic and devastating it becomes. It is deceiving secret that is blinding students..We must bring it to light and talk about it. Know what your kids are doing when they are with and without friends behind closed doors...Sadly she was without any friends :/

Wow. This is still going on? This was a big thing when I was in high school, and we had a big info session at a youth conference for youth leaders a few years back. I don't get it. I just don't. Looks like I will have another discussion topic with our 15 year old....and 12 year old.

So sad. Thank you for bringing this to everyones attention. In my Theories class we watched a video on suicide. A boy sitting on his bed put a belt around his neck and then could not get it off in time and died. Whether it was intentional or accidentaly no one will know. He did not hang himself but was just sitting on his bed. His parents had walked by his room and looking in not 5 minutes before. We need to educate and pray for wisdom for our kids. Thank you for writing this.

Ugh. We did this daily at my junior high, and at the time none of us had any idea it was dangerous. We just thought it was funny.

A good reminder to education our kids.
