When you drain your mother's energy ...

... and you don't like an old man having cataract surgery to get all the attention.

... and you spend the entire day trying to act out and get all eyes, ears and energy on you.

... you get to wake up at the crack of dawn and haul wood, so your mother can sleep in and sip coffee.

Brings back childhood memories! Our mom always had wonderfully creative ways of disciplining me & my sister when we acted out, especially bickering. Things like scrubbing baseboards, polishing silver, cracking & shelling pecans by hand, cleaning out the attice/garage, pulling weeds, etc. All the scut work that was not part of our regular chores. Mom's quote was "since you two have nothing else to do but (insert behavior here) then I will find something for you to do".

Can I send Corazon to join in the fun? She is trying to build an outhouse in our backyard because of all the time she has gotten to spend out there lately!

My mom was the original logical consequences mama...when I thought I was going to die at age five because I stepped on a purple sticker (grass burr) and my sister told me they were poisonous but ONLY right after you pulled them out....I prepared myself to meet my maker by lying on the grass...sans stickers...and folding my arms corpse-like. My mom appeared and tried to remove the sticker (basically, in my mind, she was going to kill me). My sister was given a big Piggly Wiggly grocery store paper sack and a pair of old scissors so she could collect all the stickers in the yard. Would have been great if I hadn't decided to go out and tease her. Yep, got my own bag for collecting too.

Great minds think alike.. I wrote about consequences today too.. I just didn't get to think any up today.. Vivi is being such a stubborn butt that she lost the opportunity to even EARN any consequences today.. she is just sitting and staring at the wall. All.Day.Long.

One of the great things about living in the country. There is always something to pull up, haul or tear down!!

As a reader of your blog, I don't comment much and honestly don't agree with everything you post either--- but I do happen to think this post was right on!
