A watched broth never boils

It never dawned on me to make my own veggie broth. Then, with my husband going gluten free, it's just a lot easier to make everything. I already make a lot from scratch, but DANG they pass out gluten like they do high fructose corn syrup. My love and admiration to GF people. I'm sorry if I have ever, EVER been flippant at all about the difficulty you face in just going out with friends.

While meeting and absorbing all that is Owlhaven, she suggested I just make my own. She had that shrug in her shoulders that I get when I say, "Just make your own taco seasoning," or "Just make your own laundry detergent." No big deal. Just give it a try. So I did.

Holy bits and stems, it's the easiest thing ever ... EVER. I found a fun, inspiriting recipe as well as my new favorite food blog, Vegan Yum Yum.

Even if you're not vegan or vegetarian, this is still ideal.

*shrug* "Just make your own!"

Veggie broth is yummy good especially when you add some kicken' heat to it. A great use for veggies that are on there way out. After simmering it down and letting it cool, it freezes nicely for later use.

Thank you! I have been using a lot of veggie stock, knowing that I need to just jump in and make my own, but being a little lazy about find a good recipe and just taking the plunge.. Will do this this weekend. xoxo

Homemade stock is the best! I make my own chicken stock, too, and freeze it in 2 cup portions. That way I feel like I'm using every bit of a chicken (something we dont' eat much of - a chicken is at least 3 meals for the 5 of us). Good for you!

Okay, I have decided that your blog doesn't like me, lol. I can never get a comment posted the first twenty times!

I have never thought of this. All I know to say is....WOW! Love it! Finally on the slow road back to self sustaining lifestyle and theraputic parenting. Have I ever told you I hate moving? Just checking. *wink*

Ok, inspired. Gonna go make some broth now. Yum. (I"ve made turkey/chix broth before but wasn't satisfied due to grease factor...not that you'd be interested due to the meat....) but I don't know why I haven't tried to make veggie broth as it's a staple in my pantry. So, today's the day. Thanks!

I make my own veggie broth too, but I'll have to try this method. I tend to make it because I'm cheap and I like to have more control of what goes into my food. Because I'm cheap and controlling, wow, don't I sound like a fun person to be around?

Mushrooms add good flavor and bay leaves too.

thank you for this!! we are a GF family and have recently been wanting to use several recipes calling for veggie broth...long story short, my husband ABHORS celery and can taste it in everything...including the recent nasty aseptically packaged veggie broth we tried...looking forward to trying this with light on the (read zero) celery.
