I have a Mac.
My boys have been saving for over a year to buy their own laptop. We worked a deal with them to buy mine, which gives them much more bang for their buck. It also allowed me go ahead and replace my laptop, which ignited the question ...
"Should my next laptop be a Mac?"
In the words of Christine Moers: OH. MY. HOLY. HOOCH.
The only question which might spark more passion and debate would be to stand in the middle of Oklahoma and scream, "Should I cheer for OU or OSU?"
*NOTE: I immediately caused a firestorm for listing OU before OSU in that sentence. I am not kidding. It is THAT COLOSSAL! The whole piddly UT/A&M thing has NOTHING on Oklahoma Bedlam. If you have ever lived in Oklahoma - you know.*
I will not bore you with my decision-making process. But, alas, I am now the proud owner of a refurbished Macbook Pro. I guess you could say I was a Mac dialer, after the purchase of my iPhone. But this was a pretty big jump for me.
And just like the month of feeling like a complete moron as I tried to figure out how to hang up my new phone, I now find myself frozen at a few basic tasks on my new laptop. The learning curve is not huge, but it's the tiny things which cause me to curse ever so slightly under my breath. One never has any idea just how extensively they right click, until living in a world without such a thing.
Feel free to air your "Tastes great!" "Less filling!" opinions in the comments. For now, I stare at a red, underline type-o and have no way to right click and choose the correct spelling. Someone HELP ME!
*UPDATE: thanks to the interwebs, within literally minutes of posting, reader "Kimberly" had me right clicking on my new Mac! Whoop! I would link to her, but neither of her blogs have been updated since 2006 and 2007? Um, Kimberly ....*

I think it took me 24 hours to be glad I switched, and 72 to start thinking my pc at work was like the really dumb person at the dmv you deal with anyway because well... you gotta.
the good news is: you CAN right click with a mac laptop as long as it's less than about 3-4 years old. Go into your system preferences, select track pad, and you can tell it that when you click the trackpad in the bottom right corner you want it to right click. works fantastic.
i found THIS link helpful when I started to mess w a mac.... http://www.apple.com/support/switch101/
And this one specifically when I'd find myself saying "I used to just do X... what do i do NOW!??!"

it is annoying at first... but like you said- if you've ever switched to an iphone and tried texting (or just making calls... or how bout call waiting!?!) and thought- what did i DO!? You know now you LOVE your phone and will soon love your macbook i'm sure!! :)
You'll scoff at those of us who are still on a PC! :)
Kimberly, I totally just kissed you ... on the mouth ... with TONGUE!
Logitech mice ($20 at The WalMart) work on Macs too. They utilize the scroll wheel and right click. (If you need a mouse that is.)
As for the Mac track pad -- isn't the two fingered scroll just the best?!
Once you go Mac you never go back. :)
Oh my heck... Kimberly I absolutely just kissed you too! I have had my macbook pro for almost a year and that is the one thing that bothered me. Of course I never bothered to look into it but YAY this is awesome!!
If you dont want to fiddle in the settings.. two fingered click also pops up the right click menu. I <3 my mac touchpad so much.
Happy Wednesday (it is Wednesday right?)
Sometimes I try to use Matt's PC and it causes me to convulse in anger and frustration. I LOVE MY MAC! Welcome to the cult, er, I mean, club :)
Woo-hoo! I'll have to come play on it sometime and see how cool it really is.
Have been debating the same questions here... PCs are all dead slow around here, kids' 'puter always crashing... haven't used a mac in ~ 20 years but I've been thinking about it!!
I relate to this post so well. After about 6 months of researching and thinking it over, I switched from my very slow PC to an iMac. Lots to learn but I have no regrets...
Kay I drank the KoolAid last summer and haven't looked back (much!). We both switched to Macs. The multi-finger controls of the trackpad sold me. My son Jonathan says I've "gone to the dark side, and taken Mom too!". By the way, right-clicking on a modern Mac = two-finger click on the trackpad. It brings up the context menu. (Or you can Control + click if you want to pretend you are in Windows.)
My husband has a Mac. He keeps trying to get me to drink the Kool-Aid. I finally took a sip with an i-phone.
yah, I'm more of a reader it turns out. but I do love me some apple-y goodness. glad I could help. :o)
After years of frustrating break downs with windows version PCs, we broke down and bought a MacBook Pro too!!!!
We are in the learning curve too, I'll pass on some cool tips as I signed up for the One to One service, but haven't had the time to get in for training....hhhmmm wonder why???
you can right click. go to your blue apple top left. system preferences and change the track pad settings. For mine it is two fingers to scroll or two finger tap for right click
switching over was the best decision i ever made! other then marrying my best friend and giving birth to our 3 children.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Mac! :) We are a two Mac family, and love it! LOVE IT! :) Plus, I still can play all my windows games on parallels. :)
Blessings!
Hannah
Welcome to the dark side.... We love it here :)
