Magical Milk Pic-o-the-Week

(photo from Kate; used with permission)
"Thank you for posting magical milk pictures.  When I was pregnant, I regularly looked through the whole archive of pictures and told myself over and over that they were images of the ideal way to feed babies.  Even though I was raised in a pro-breastfeeding family, I still felt very uncomfortable about doing it.  I believe that looking at all the beautiful pictures made it seem more normal and right to me.

My son and I had a great start breastfeeding, but at 3 months he started having problems with nursing strikes.  At 10 months old, he refused to nurse for 5 days.  I pumped to try to keep up my supply.  It was a very frustrating time.  I decided to give it another try and he latched!  This picture is from our first nursing session after that strike.  The next five months of nursing went very well with no strikes.

I ended up finding out that I had much lower supply around the time of menstruation and that he was getting frustrated that the milk wasn't coming like usual.  Suddenly the monthly strikes for the last 7 months made sense.  I found out that eating lots of oatmeal and leafy greens helped and I think that's why things improved."
