Sarah, I just use a baking soda rinse for "shampoo" and an ACV rinse for "conditioner" on their hair. Cheap, and absolutely nothing better.

Do you use the same wash and rinse for your African daughters? If not, what do you use for them? My daughter from Uganda has had braids for three weeks. I could never do the dread thing as I have enough hair on my head for three people. It would take years! :)

Love your new hairstyle. Wish I had the cojones to grow my hair long so I could dread it, too. Where is your RV park? Maybe my son and I will rent an RV this summer or spring break and hop on over for a while. Are "puppies" allowed? (120lb to 40lb puppies)

Your hair looks great! I started my partner's locs and have been maintaining them for almost two years now, mostly by twisting. I'm a big, big believer in washing locs. What you're trying to get your hair to do is felt like a wool sweater would in the washing machine, and felting happens best with hot water and friction, which is what you get when you wash your hair.

you can always wash your hair with dreds, i mean most people with dreds still wash their hair unless they are deliberately neglecting....but i will admit i don't know how you wash dreds that are twisted and not undo the twisting....even on the kids. My daughter's dreds are latch hooked so i don't have to worry about that.
